About Me

MY name is Trish Hickson, and I specialise in painting animals and wildlife.
I live near Wimborne, in the beautiful Dorset countryside. close to both Poole and Bournemouth UK, with my husband, two beautiful Golden Retrievers and a handful of pet hens.
Art and animals have always been my passion. As a child I would always be found with animals, my sketch book, or both! I still have my childhood paintbox, with very little paint left in it.
Life led me on a different path for some time, and I have only returned to painting in the last few years, after I took some pastel workshops. I just fell in love with pastels because of the wonderful way they capture the softness and texture of animal fur.
Having become passionate about painting animals in pastels, I decided to combine my two loves of animals and art. I have had great success in selling my original paintings at exhibitions, and now have many satisfied clients.
I have recently received a Distinction for my work on a Pet Portrait Course with The London Art College, which is an intensive course covering various mediums. Last year i was delighted to be chosen as the front cover artist for "Paint", the "Society For All Artists" magazine, also featuring a two page interview with me, and more images of my work.
I prefer to use pastel for commission work, but do produce original work in oils and acrylic for exhibition and sale. I also have prints and cards available of my non-commissioned artwork.
I love all animals, and every painting I do is important to me. I aim to capture the character and individuality in each animal. I know how special the relationship is be between a pet and its owner, and this is why I work very hard to perfect every portrait, hand drawing each one, and taking many hours to create a pet portrait using high quality papers and pastels.
